
Sicilian Focaccia Bread
Why do we call this “Sicilian Focaccia Bread?” Well, because we use our Organic Sicilian Seasoning, of course! Don’t let the prep time of this recipe scare you, though. Most of this time is devoted to letting the dough rise.
Prep Time: 5-25 hours (most of this is letting the bread rise).
Cook Time: 20-25 minutes
Ingredients:
3 Tbsp. Journey Spice Co. Organic Sicilian Seasoning (more or less depending on preference).
4 cups of all-purpose flour
2 cups lukewarm water
6 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
2 tsp instant rise yeast
2 tsp honey
1 tsp fine salt
Optional: Parmesan to sprinkle on top
Directions:
- Stir together flour, salt, one tablespoon of Journey Spice Co. Organic Sicilian Seasoning, and yeast in a large bowl.
- Pour in the lukewarm water and stir well with a spatula.
- Drizzle the top and sides of the dough with 2 Tbsp. of extra virgin olive oil.
- Cover the bowl and let it rise at room temperature for 2 hours or overnight in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
- Pour 2 Tbsp. Extra-virgin olive oil on the bottom of a 10×14-inch oven-safe baking pan.
- Pour the dough into the pan and spread it to the edges of the pan as much as possible.
- Cover the pan and let it rise another two hours at room temperature.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F.
- Drizzle with 2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil, and gently dimple the dough with your fingers. Nudge the dough to the edges of the pan if needed.
- Sprinkle with Journey Spice Co. Organic Sicilian Seasoning and parmesan if desired.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Store leftovers at room temperature and enjoy within 4 days (remember, there are no added preservatives in this bread).
