FAQs
You Have Questions. We Have Answers.
Welcome to our FAQs page. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible about our brand and products. Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions below to see if they clear up any questions that are on your mind. You can also ask us a question on our Contact Us page.
Are all of your products really non-GMO?
Yes. For food products to become USDA Organic Certified, the use of Genetically Modified Organisms in any way is strictly prohibited.
What are the benefits of producing your products in small batches?
Journey Spice Co. products are produced in homemade, small batches. This preserves our products’ authenticity, consistency, and overall quality. These aspects often suffer when it comes to larger-scale production of spice and seasoning blends. As a result, various fillers, additives, and recipe adjustments occur to compensate for any degradations in the final product. Small batch production also ensures a fresh and flavorful product when you receive it. This is because we do not keep bulk orders of individual ingredients sitting in a warehouse for many months before using them in the final product. We also do not have large amounts of finished products sitting around at distribution centers for a long time before they reach you.
Are your products responsibly sourced?
Our products are made in the U.S.A using responsibly sourced global ingredients and inspirations. We carefully choose our ingredients and only source from suppliers that actively use sustainable, ethical, socially conscious, and fair practices.
Are all of your products gluten-free?
Spices and seasonings are naturally gluten-free. Our products satisfy current FDA guidelines to be labeled as a gluten-free food. Additionally, our products are of premium quality, and we do not add cheap fillers to increase product weight or reduce our costs. These cheap fillers are often derived from gluten-based products.
Are your products kosher?
Our products are not officially kosher certified. However, since our products are USDA Organic Certified, we carefully evaluate every ingredient before including it in our products. During our evaluations, we have noticed that a large majority of ingredients we choose are kosher certified. We are always paying attention to the needs of our consumers, and we may seek kosher certification for our products in the future.
Do your seasonings contain excessive heavy metals?
In addition to our ingredients being synthetic pesticide-free, toxic EtO-free, and USDA Organic Certified (you can verify this here), our ingredient suppliers also test against heavy metals through various third-party agencies. Although we ensure on our end that any ingredient supplier we source from undergoes testing for heavy metals, we cannot provide actual certificate information at this time because this would reveal who we source our ingredients from. We consider these sources to be proprietary knowledge, as is common for businesses like ours. However, we are currently evaluating the cost-effectiveness of our own third-party testing, where we would release the resulting reports to the public.
Another strategy we use to combat excessive levels of heavy metals in our seasoning blends is ordering many spices in whole form and grinding them in-house at our dedicated, USDA Organic-Approved facility. These spices that we grind from whole form include spices that have been known to potentially have higher levels of heavy metals, such as cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, cumin, turmeric, and several other ones. Grinding these spices from whole form in-house reduces potential exposure to heavy metals that may occur throughout the supply chain before they reach the final manufacturer. Examples of increased heavy metal exposure that can occur when a manufacturer orders ground vs. whole form include: fillers and additives, such as lead, added to increase weight, grinding machine contamination, and increased heavy-metal-containing soil residue due to quality control issues.
