Journey Spice Co. Cheesy Za'atar Dinner Roll Recipe

Cheesy Za’atar Dinner Roll Recipe

This Cheesy Za’atar Dinner Roll Recipe is completely homemade from start to finish. Even though we call these “dinner rolls,” they are also delicious for breakfast, brunch, or a snack. These rolls are relatively easy to make, with most of the prep time going towards waiting for the dough to rise. This Cheesy Za’atar Dinner Roll Recipe calls for feta cheese or mozzarella cheese, or if you wish, you can use both types of cheese together. If you are on a plant-based/vegan diet, you can also substitute regular cheese for plant-based varieties of cheese.

Prep Time: about 1 hour and 30 minutes

Cook/Bake Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

6 Tbsp. Journey Spice Co. Organic Za’atar

6 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (plus a little extra for rolling)

1 ½ cups feta or mozzarella cheese (regular or plant-based)

1 cup warm water

2 Tbsp. warmed butter (regular or plant-based)

3 ½ tsp. active dry yeast

3 tsp. sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine the active dry yeast, sugar, and warm water, mix well, and set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Combine the flour, yeast mixture, and 1 Tbsp. of the warmed butter and knead for about five minutes.
  3. Cover the dough with a clean dishcloth and set aside for 1 hour.
  4. After waiting 45 minutes for the dough to rise, preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  5. Knead the dough again after waiting the full hour for it to rise using the other Tbsp. of warmed butter for about 1 minute.
  6. Sprinkle a large surface with flour and roll the dough to about 10 x 16 inches.
  7. Mix the Journey Spice Co. Organic Za’atar and olive oil, and brush 5 Tbsp. of the mixture on the rolled-out dough.
  8. Sprinkle the cheese on the dough.
  9. Roll the dough in a spiral shape, starting with the short side of the dough.
  10. Evenly cut the dough into 10 pieces and place the pieces on an oven pan sprayed with cooking spray. Brush the remaining 1 Tbsp. of Journey Spice Co. Organic Za’atar mixture over the rolls.
  11. Bake for 20 minutes.
  12. Let cool and enjoy within five days. Store rolls in your refrigerator.
